When I Look At The World

I titled my blog, "When I Look At The World", for several reasons. First of all, it's the name of one of my favorite U2 songs. U2 has been my favorite band for more than a decade and their lyrics (when I can understand them) speak to me on different levels. This song was released on the album, All That You Can't Leave Behind in 2000.

The lyrics:

When you look at the world
What is it that you see
People find all kinds of things
That bring them to their knees

I see an expression
So clear and so true
That changes the atmosphere
When you walk to the room

So I try to be like you
Try to feel it like you do
But without you it's no use
I can't see what you see
When I look at the world

When the night is someone else's
And you're trying to get some sleep
When your thoughts are too expensive
To ever want to keep

When there's all kinds of chaos
And everyone is walking lame
You don't even blink now do you
Don't even look away

So I try to be like you
Try to feel it like you do
But without you it's no use
I can't see what you see
When I look at the world

I can't wait any longer
I can't wait 'til I'm stronger
Can't wait any longer
To see what you see
When I look at the world

I'm in the waiting room
I can't see for the smoke
I think of you and your holy book
When the rest of us choke

Tell me, tell me
What do you see
Tell me, tell me
What's wrong with me

I could write about U2's music that would cover several blog posts, and some people have had to listen to me go on and on about their music. But that's not the point. I was listening to this song last night and I realized how much it felt like what I'm going through. My feelings and thoughts about many things are changing. I no longer "look at the world" the same way. However, this won't be a blog about everything that bothers me, and there are several things I won't be specific about. At some point though, I plan to dig into some of my favorite U2 songs.

Now these are some subjects I LOVE talking about: my cat, hockey, crocheting and what projects I'm working on, reading, coffee, and my dreams about living on a boat. I haven't traveled much except to Morocco and that's still a touchy subject. Those who know me know that I'd rather stay at home and hang out with friends than go out to parties and clubs.

As for jobs, I am currently underemployed seeking full-time work or, at least, a couple of part-time jobs. My grandma is my current employer and I am her chauffeur, dishwasher, housekeeper, dog-walker, errand-runner, etc. I've also been a freelance writer since November, writing about completely random topics such as: the history of marriage licenses, the fastest growing languages in the world, and the comparison of smartphone apps. All in all, life keeps me busy as there is always something to do. I hope to post on a regular basis.

Until then,

~Staci~
